Paramount’s Michael Douglas thriller “Black Rain” led the box office for the third weekend in a row with $6.4 million. With Columbus Day, Yom Kippur and Canadian Thanksgiving all falling on Monday, the studios extended their weekend box-office tally to include Monday’s receipts. The soft debut of Touchstone’s “An Innocent Man” once again raised the question of Tom Selleck’s big-screen appeal. The crime drama grossed $6.3 million on 1,561 screens for a four-day holiday average of $4,091 per screen. Last year on Columbus Day weekend, Fox’s “Alien Nation” opened for $8.4 million. Three Universal releases--”Sea of Love” ($5.8 million), “Parenthood” ($3 million) and “Uncle Buck” ($2.8 million)--rounded out the Top 5.

* Jane Fonda’s epic “Old Gringo” rode in on a wave of publicity but opened quietly on 237 screens. The Mexican Revolution drama, co-starring Gregory Peck and Jimmy Smits, grossed $1.1 million, a per-screen average of $4,859.
