Cable News Network will team veteran newsman Bernard Shaw and Catherine Crier, a former Texas district judge with no news background, as co-anchors of its new hourlong newscast that starts Monday. In announcing the pairing Tuesday, CNN said Shaw will be in Washington, and Crier will be in CNN’s Atlanta headquarters. “The World Today,” starting at 6 p.m. EDT each weeknight, will be competing in its second half hour with the nightly newscasts of CBS, NBC and ABC in Eastern and Central time zones. It will be seen here at 3 p.m. The networks tape-delay their newscasts for broadcast on the West Coast, but CNN’s new show will air live nationally with no tape-delay showings.
