Street Brawl Erupts at Labor Congress

BUENOS AIRES — Members of rival labor union factions battled here with steel rods, rocks and clubs on Tuesday during a workers’ congress called to chose new leadership.
About 4,000 activists of factions competing for support in the General Labor Confederation gathered in gangs of several hundred around the San Martin Theater, site of the congress, and hurled insults in a confrontation that soon snowballed into physical violence.
