Norwalk : Retirement Homes to Merge Under Lutheran Ownership
California Lutheran Homes, which operates the Alhambra retirement home at 2312 S. Fremont Ave., is planning to merge with a Norwalk retirement home, a move that will make it one of the largest senior care facilities in Southern California, a spokesman said.
The merger will not be final until the board of directors for Southland Lutheran Home approves it Dec. 2, but California Lutheran Homes has already begun managing the Norwalk facility under a special agreement, said Richard Bennett, a California Lutheran Homes spokesman.
The Alhambra home is one of three retirement facilities operated by California Lutheran Homes, a nonprofit service organization founded in 1947. The group also manages independent living facilities such as Pasadena Lutheran Apartments in Pasadena and Pilgrim Tower in Los Angeles.
The merger will allow the parent group to negotiate better deals when purchasing supplies, thus benefiting all the homes, Bennett said.
