Venice : Farmers Market Moves

The Venice Farmers Market has a new home--a parking lot between North and South Venice boulevards at Pacific Avenue--which will be dedicated Friday in a “carrot-cutting” ceremony.

The year-old market, a project of the Venice Action Committee, has been meeting near the Pavilion at Venice Beach.

According to Venice Action Committee President Jack Hoffman, the new location, which has been in operation for two weeks, has already demonstrated its value. “The first Friday it had the largest gross ever in its year of operation, indicating location is the key,” he said.

Farmers who asked customers how they knew about the market were told people saw it when they drove past.

City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter will attend the “carrot-cutting” at 8 a.m.

The market, which features California-grown fruit, vegetables and herbs, is open every Friday from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. On-site parking is available.
