The training got real for 25 San Jose police recruits who found a cache of marijuana near a roped-off street where they practice traffic accident investigations. The discovery was beginner’s luck, but it took up to 40 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $20,000 out of circulation, Capt. Bill Landsdowne said. The trainees were learning how to take accident reports and measurements on a roped-off section of Regent Street when someone noticed four garbage bags, later found to contain marijuana, in a nearby field. “It was a great opportunity for the new officers,” Landsdowne said.
