Sinking Boat Report May Be Hoax; Search Suspended

PENSACOLA, Fla. —
The Coast Guard on Thursday suspended its three-day search for a vessel that reportedly sank in the Gulf of Mexico with 18 people aboard, classifying it as “a possible hoax.” The distress call came from a man who identified himself as the master of a 64-foot vessel that was sinking south of Pensacola.
