Bishop Amat Storms Past Montgomery, 23-7

Bishop Amat scored 16 points in the second half to break away from the Bishop Montgomery and win an Angelus League opener for both teams, 23-7, at Amat’s Kiefer Stadium

In the first half, with Amat ahead 3-0, Bishop Montgomery’s Dave Hall recovered Anthony Manrique’s fumble on the Amat one-yard line. Bishop Montgomery took the lead on the next play as Marvin Negrete followed Chris Mamaulanga into the end zone. John Graviss’ extra point made the score 7-3 with 7:48 to go in the half.

But Bishop Amat took the ensuing kickoff and drove 56 yards for a touchdown. Amat quarterback Zack Zertuche hit All-CIF receiver Jeremy Smith for the 15-yard score.
