‘Degrading’ Quote About the Disabled

Share

The article dealing with Sue Gordon’s parties for the disabled (The Times, Sept. 28) was marred by the comment from Susan Miller of the Westside Center for Independent Living that these gatherings allow the disabled an opportunity “to talk about the drudgery of daily life with their peers.”

This is insulting and degrading not only to me (I am a quadriplegic) but to the majority of disabled people who enjoy life as much as anyone else on this planet. Miller should re-evaluate her archaic thinking. That statement left a bad taste in my mouth, offsetting the positive contributions that Sue Gordon offers to this disabled.
