‘Days of the Verdugos’ to Celebrate Heritage

The annual celebration of Glendale’s Spanish heritage will begin today and culminate Saturday with the 42nd Days of the Verdugos Parade.

The Days of the Verdugos Fair and Carnival, sponsored by the Glendale Jaycees, will run for four days, beginning today in Verdugo Park at Canada Boulevard and Colina Drive.

Carnival hours are 4 to 10 p.m. today, 4 p.m. to midnight Friday, 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

There will be bingo, game booths and rides. Admission is free.

Saturday’s parade will start at 10 a.m. at Central Avenue and Broadway and proceed north to Doran Street.

The annual celebration began in 1938 with a Spanish fiesta. Ten years later, the Glendale Junior Chamber of Commerce organized a parade called “Glendale on Parade,” and a carnival was added the year after that.
