Draw the drapes, don a sweater and drag out the Scrabble board. The weather this weekend is going to be “cold, cloudy and crummy,” said National Weather Service forecaster Wilbur Shigehara.

This weekend offers something for everyone who loves gray weather. There will be a 20% chance of light showers or drizzle tonight and Saturday morning, night and morning fog rolling into the inland valleys and only a slight possibility of sunshine Sunday afternoon, Shigehara said.

“It will be after Halloween before we see any warm weather again,” Shigehara said. “There has been a major change in the wind pattern, and we have a low-pressure system along the coast that is deepening on a day-to-day basis.”

Shigehara said this low-pressure system will hover over San Diego at least until the end of next week, keeping the temperatures cool and the skies gray throughout the county.

Fog to Lift, Shift

However, the thick fog, which twice in the past week decreased visibility at Lindbergh Field to less than a mile, will be lifting and shift away from the coast, Shigehara said. Inland residents may see more of the dense fog over the weekend, but it is not expected to hamper operations at Lindbergh, Gillespie or Montgomery air fields, he said.

Beach highs today through Sunday will be 65 to 68 degrees, Shigehara said. The ocean temperature is 64.

The coastal strip will be generally cloudy through Saturday, with some afternoon sunshine on Sunday, Shigehara said. Daytime highs will be 67 to 72, and overnight lows will be 60 to 64.

Highs in the inland areas will be 73 to 78 today, 68 to 74 Saturday and Sunday, Shigehara said. Overnight lows will be 58 to 62.

The mountains and deserts will also be cloudy through Saturday, but by Sunday there will be some sunshine for both areas, Shigehara said.

Highs in the mountains will be 65 to 70 today and 58 to 65 Saturday and Sunday. Lows will be 50 to 57 degrees.

Desert highs of 88 to 93 are expected today, 83 to 88 on the weekend. Lows of 57 to 67 are forecast tonight, dipping to the low to mid-50s Saturday night.
