A man suspected of raping and kidnaping a 19-year old woman was arrested Sunday after police surrounded a house in South San Diego.
The suspect, Jose Luis Estrada, 32, surrendered after a SWAT team was summoned, ending a 3 1/2-hour standoff in the 2200 block of Conifer Avenue, according to San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson.
The incident ended peacefully when Estrada surrendered at 4:45 p.m. to a bilingual police detective, Carlos Chacon. Officers were attempting to determine if Chacon was armed during the confrontation.
Estrada is suspected of the rape and kidnaping of a 19-year-old woman that occurred on Saturday evening in the same area where Estrada was apprehended, Robinson said.
The victim told police she was able to escape after being repeatedly raped and beaten. She was treated at Chula Vista Community Hospital, Robinson said.
Estrada was being questioned by police Sunday evening, Robinson said.
