Japan warned its shutterbug tourists today to show a little consideration and not rush to the San Francisco area to view the earthquake damage with their cameras clicking.

The Japan Assn. of Travel Agents issued an advisory to tourists, asking them not to take pictures of areas damaged in the second worst earthquake in U.S. history.

The association said it had reports that Japanese tourists are ignoring police barriers to take closeup shots of the destruction caused by Tuesday’s quake.

“Although we haven’t received complaints about Japanese tourists’ ill-mannered behavior from the United States government, we issued the advisory to avoid any further trouble there,” said Shuunosuke Kimura, secretary general of the association.

About 1,000 Japanese tourists are visiting San Francisco, according to association figures.

The advisory was sent out to the association’s 1,685 member travel agencies with instructions to inform tourists going to the Bay area.
