NEWPORT BEACH : Suspect Is Arrested in Balboa Burglaries
An officer answering a radio call arrested a burglary suspect Monday who was found to have three stolen purses from Balboa Island women in the trunk of his car, police reported.
James Jude Mellon Jr., a Downey truck driver, was arrested on suspicion of burglary at about 4:45 a.m. Monday at Jamboree Road and Bayside Drive, which is just across the Marine Avenue Bridge from Balboa Island, Police Sgt. Andy Gonis said.
Gonis said Officer Joe Heppler stopped Mellon, 26, when he acted suspiciously. Heppler had been responding to a call over the police radio that asked officers to look for suspects who might have been breaking into Balboa Island houses.
