THE SIDELINES : Nuggets Woo Yugoslav Star
The Denver Nuggets are trying to sign Yugoslavia’s most talented basketball star, Toni Kukoc, family sources said today.
Kukoc, according to the sources, was contacted by officials of the NBA team last weekend in Rome, where his Yugoslav team, Jugoplastika, competed against the Nuggets, Philips Milan of Italy and Barcelona of Spain in a tournament.
Kukoc has not made up his mind about the Nuggets’ offer, the sources, who requested anonymity, told Associated Press. “He is still evaluating the offer because of several proposals he has received from some other NBA and European teams,” a close family member said.
At 6 feet 9, the 21-year-old Kukoc is considered one of Europe’s most talented players. He has played center, forward and guard and has averaged 20 points a game in the Yugoslav league.
