Student Suspensions Down

Student suspensions in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District during the 1988-89 school year dropped nearly 14% from the year before, from 912 to 785, according to a staff report released on Monday.

It was the third straight year that suspensions have declined in the district, according to the report. In the 1986-87 school year, there were 971 suspensions in the district.

Santa Monica High School, the district’s only high school, had the most suspensions with 306. Lincoln Middle School was second with 146, and Adams Middle School was next with 134. Rogers Elementary School had 20 students suspended last year, the highest number among the district’s elementary schools.
