TARRAGONA, Spain —
A transformer blew up at Spain’s stricken Vandellos nuclear power plant Thursday.
The plant, near the southern Catalan town of Tarragona, was closed a week ago when a turbine exploded and caused a blaze.
The latest incident produced thick smoke, which caused alarm in nearby villages. But authorities said there was no fire and the smoke was harmless.
