GARDEN GROVE : TV Stars to Appear at Benefit Fund-Raiser

Share

The stars of three television shows will weigh into the battle against drug abuse and gang violence Sunday at a benefit fund-raiser.

Alan Rachins and Joanna Frank of “L.A. Law,” Gloria Loring from “Days of Our Lives” and Robert Walden from “Brothers” will be the special celebrity guests at the Say Yes! to Life event at 2 p.m. in the Festival Amphitheater at 12852 Main St., Garden Grove.

Funds raised through the sale of tickets will help support a drug- and gang-prevention program for Turning Point, a Garden Grove-based program counseling youth and families in trouble.

The new program uses acting workshops run by Jessica Stuart Yudelson of Garden Grove.

“Students gain self-esteem. They learn that they don’t have to give in to drugs of violence,” she said. In the classes, she said students learn specific behaviors and techniques to cope with stress and peer pressure.

At Sunday’s event, the four actors will do improvisations on the themes of drugs and violence. It’s part of a larger “Stars Against Drugs” program Yudelson is organizing, in which celebrities will make monthly visits to the Turning Point classes to work with the students.

Musical entertainment and a buffet reception are also part of Sunday’s benefit. Tickets are $35, and more information can be obtained by calling Turning Point at (714) 636-3823 or Stars Against Drugs at (714) 534-4705.
