Dallas Maverick officials are not overly concerned that forward Roy Tarpley, a two-time offender of the NBA’s anti-drug policy, did not attend practice Friday and remained unaccounted for, a team spokesman said.
Tarpley was suspended from the team in January for drug violations and returned to the roster in April.
“We don’t know anything right now,” Gene Yaws of the Mavericks’ media relations office said Friday afternoon.
Tarpley, a former University of Michigan star, has two strikes under the NBA’s anti-drug policy. Players who violate the policy three times face an automatic two-year suspension from the league. Tarpley missed 49 games last season while undergoing drug rehabilitation. He returned to the roster April 11.
The 7-foot forward averaged 14.8 points and 10.6 rebounds in 19 games last season.
