For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen:

* Cut back or eliminate fertilizer for your house plants and give them a rest for the winter. Take care not to over-water.

* Consult a nurseryman to learn how to rid your lawn of weeds that may have taken hold during the summer.

* Plant Dutch iris this month for a show of spring flowers.

* Left to decay on your lawn or flower bed, fallen leaves are a haven for all sorts of pests and diseases.

* Stop feeding garden roses now.
