There was nothing pee-wee about the luncheon extravaganza CBS star Pee-wee Herman threw Sunday to launch a new line of Pee-wee Herman Brand merchandise for JC Penney. Street dancers and acrobats performed in a festive tent next to Pee-wee’s Playhouse at the Culver Studios, as Herman showed off the clothing for children and adults, plus linens, dinnerware, toys, greeting cards and calendars. Proceeds from the sales of Pee-wee calendars and cards will go to the Child Welfare League of America. Pee-wee is also serving as national chairman of the 1989 “Toys for Tots,” so guests at Sunday’s party were asked to bring a new toy for the campaign. Penney’s stores will have drop-off bins for toys during the holidays. Penney’s had a successful tie-in last year with Steven Spielberg’s “The Land Before Time.”
