QUIK PROFITS: When the surf’s up, Quiksilver’s executives and employees spend most of their free time at the beach. Despite the Costa Mesa company’s casual culture, the Quiksilver crew has been riding a tide of profits. And it has not gone unnoticed. Forbes magazine ranked the surfwear maker No. 5 on a list of the nation’s 200 best small companies. The listing is based on the average return on equity over the last five years. Quiksilver was among 23 California companies on Forbes’ list, the most of any state.
