SANTA ANA — John A. MacElwee, former marketing director of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic in New York, has been named director of marketing and public relations for the Pacific Symphony, effective Nov. 13, orchestra officials announced Thursday. MacElwee succeeds W. Andrew Powell, who resigned at the end of May.
In addition to marketing and public relations, MacElwee will oversee audience development programs for the Pacific.
Before his work with the Hudson Valley orchestra, MacElwee was director of development and marketing for the Napa Valley Symphony Assn. (1985-87) and publicist for the Contra Costa Symphony (1984), both in California.
He also has played as a professional string bassist in the Santa Rosa, Napa Valley and Norwalk, Conn., symphonies. He will not perform with the Pacific.
