From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A year after six Latino voters contended that they were intimidated by uniformed guards posted by the Orange County Republican Party at Santa Ana polling places, the county’s registrar of voters has agreed to pay $20,000 to settle a federal lawsuit springing from the Election Day incident. Documents filed in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana on Thursday show that Registrar Donald Tanney also has agreed to train his poll workers to be more sensitive to ethnic and racial issues and to instruct them to bar harassment of voters at the polls.
