One of the more delectable guilty pleasures of the old Red Seal catalogue, this remastered recital finds the American soprano in prime estate, within a fondness for crooning and swooping her way through seven of Joseph Canteloube’s folk-song settings and, for a change, the Villa-Lobos work complete with its second movement. The Brazilian composer’s specified eight-cello accompaniment wasn’t enough for the late Stokowski, who laid down a lush carpet of strings for Moffo to run her larynx through.
