Threat Unveiled: The Iranian-born producer of “Veiled Threat” has opened the controversial film at an L.A. theater--seven months after receiving telephone death threats, apparently in connection with its negative portrayal of Iran’s former Khomeini regime. “There have been no more threats,” said producer Behrooz Afrakhan. “We’re taking a low-key approach (to the film’s marketing).” Daystar, the tiny company that produced the low-budget thriller, has advertised “Veiled Threat” primarily in media aimed at Southern California’s half a million Iranian-born residents, where the film’s star, Behrouz Vossoughi, has a broad following. Afrakhan said he is not concerned about further threats once audiences see “Veiled Threat” because the film--playing at the AMC Century 14 theater in Century City--”does not openly attack Khomeini . . . and is respectful towards religion.”
