N.Y. Times to Close Printing Plant: New York Times Co. said it plans to close a printing plant in Carlstadt, N.J., late next year in a move that will “significantly reduce staffing requirements.” The number of layoffs, if any, has not yet been determined, said Times spokeswoman Nancy Nielsen. The bulk of the 1,200 full-time-equivalent employees at Carlstadt will shift to the company’s new automated color facility in Edison, N.J. The newspaper’s Times Square printing plant in Manhattan will remain in operation, the company said.
