A motorcyclist was killed when his bike collided with a four-wheel-drive truck and he was thrown into the path of two other vehicles, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.

Robert Hamilton, 23, of Laguna Beach was killed at about 6:15 p.m. Monday, officers said.

Officers said he was riding his motorcycle west at a high rate of speed on Crown Valley Parkway approaching Via Valle when his bike collided with a truck driven by Robert Sangston, 51, of Mesa, Ariz. Sangston was trying to turn left from Via Valle onto eastbound Crown Valley Parkway, the CHP reported.

Hamilton was thrown from his cycle and landed in the eastbound lanes, where he was hit by at least one vehicle. Sangston complained of pain and his passenger, Rheta Sangston, 49, was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center for treatment of what were described as moderate injuries.
