Incumbent board President Barbara Bowman was among the winners in the Las Virgenes Unified School District election.

Other winners were Judy Jordan, a teacher with a master’s degree in education from Stanford University; and Iraj Broomand, director of a school for emotionally disturbed adolescents in Reseda.

Bowman was the leading vote-getter with 3,253 votes, or 26.4% of the ballots cast. Jordan followed with 3,230 votes and 26.3%, and Broomand received 2,347 voters for 19.1%.

The unsuccessful candidates were Roger Wakefield, a special-education coordinator at Chatsworth High School, and Jack Bethel, a banker. Wakefield received 2,182 votes or 17.7%, and Bethel garnered 1,290 votes for 10.5%.

Bowman was the only incumbent seeking reelection to the five-member board. Board members Betty Noling and Ron Jauch did not seek reelection.

The board is likely to grapple with some difficult fiscal issues in the coming year. Negotiations with teachers over a new contract are expected to begin in May. The district already has a $1.4-million deficit in its $32-million 1989-90 budget.

The district stretches from Calabasas to Westlake Village and has an enrollment of about 9,300 students.
