PLACENTIA : Funds Allocated for Placentia Ave. Work

Share

The City Council has allocated more than $500,000 for the reconstruction of a section of Placentia Avenue.

The project, which will affect Placentia Avenue north of Orangethorpe Avenue and south of Chapman Avenue, will consist of asphalt reworking, pavement overlay and reconstruction of street elevations at the railroad crossing north of Crowther Avenue to provide a smoother ride.

The area is to the west of the Orange Freeway, running beneath the freeway at Santa Fe Avenue before Chapman Avenue. Also included in the plans are the purchase of rubberized railroad crossing materials for two crossings on Placentia Avenue to replace the existing wooden crossings.

The county Transportation Commission approved $406,000 in federal aid to cover most of the costs for street repaving in April, 1988. The cities of Fullerton and Placentia are each assuming a cost of $80,900 in matching funds, bringing the total cost to $567,800. The new rubberized crossings would be installed by Santa Fe Railroad at its own cost as part of the project.

The city hopes to propose a similar funding agreement with the city of Anaheim for installing the same material at a railroad crossing at Kraemer Boulevard and Crowther Avenue.

“Despite the fact that the railroad crossing in question is totally in the city of Anaheim, they say they don’t have the money in their budget this year to rubberize the crossing,” Placentia City Administrator Robert D’Amato said. D’Amato said Anaheim would install the crossings if the material is provided, though, and had appeared receptive to some form of shared costs.
