JAILHOUSE ROCK: Mark & Brian, KLOS-FM’s mischievous morning deejays, have been on the air this week plotting a splashy Thanksgiving parade. But what would a parade be without a genial Santa Claus to wave at the crowds from the lead float? After considering a host of celebs, the KLOS bad-boys made a unique choice (sort of a Santa Claus from hell): Ike Turner. The only problem: Turner is--well--unavailable.

The troubled ex-R&B; star is serving a year’s sentence for a 1988 charge of possessing and transporting drugs. (Turner was out on appeal, playing club dates and appearing on “The Arsenio Hall Show,” when he was arrested this summer for possession of drugs and weapons and had his bail revoked.) Undeterred, Mark & Brian phoned a Newhall-area correctional facility, trying to track down Turner. After being rebuffed by several guards, M&B; actually got a message to Turner, who called the duo--collect--from jail. Ike insisted that if M&B; could spring him, he’d happily preside over the festivities.

Elated, M&B; called James Albrecht, the Santa Monica Superior Court judge who sentenced Turner, asking him if a furlough could be arranged. (Albrecht sounded sympathetic, but noncommittal.) We tried to phone Ike ourselves--but settled for a chat with his attorney. “Our appeals to get Ike out have failed, even though our hearing found new evidence involving Ike’s weapon-possession charge,” said lawyer Peter Cowan. “It turns out the gun was not loaded and it was not on his person--it was in the trunk of his car. As Ike’s attorney, I think it’s a terrific idea for him to be in the parade, especially if they could incorporate an anti-drug theme into the event. But whether he can leave jail is entirely up the judge.”
