SHORT TAKES : Hammer Home from Hospital
Industrialist and philanthropist Armand Hammer feels so good after having a heart pacemaker implanted that he plans to return to his office Tuesday.
The 91-year-old chairman of Occidental Petroleum Corp. went home Sunday, two days after the operation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
“He is at home now, and he feels great. He expects to be back in the office on Tuesday,” said Occidental spokesman Frank Ashley.
Hammer, who has had heart trouble for 20 years, met every Soviet leader since Vladimir I. Lenin, and often served as unofficial ambassador between the superpowers.
