FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Van

A 74-year-old pedestrian died of injuries he suffered in a weekend traffic accident, police said Sunday.
Officers said John Jakonen of Fountain Valley was walking across Bushard Street, just north of Garfield Avenue, about 6 p.m. Saturday when he was hit by a van as he stooped to pick up a newspaper he had dropped.
Jakonen was rushed to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center but died shortly after the accident, police said.
No charges or citations were filed, but the investigation is continuing, police said.
