Three of four men who were drinking beer in front of a store on West Myrtle Street on Saturday night were shot, one of them critically wounded, reportedly after an argument between one of them and a juvenile passing on the sidewalk.
Police spokesman Jim McDaniel said that a few minutes after the argument, the juvenile returned with several other young males, one of whom was carrying a handgun.
Alfredo S. Montanez, 30, of Santa Ana, who was shot in the chest, remained in critical condition Sunday. Pedro A. Leal, 27, and Ernesto A. Negrette, 29, both of Santa Ana, suffered minor leg injuries from gunshots. The fourth man escaped without injury, McDaniel said.
The four men had gone to Theresa’s Market at 910 W. Myrtle St. to buy beer. When they came out, their car wouldn’t start. They were drinking the beer and waiting for a tow truck when the juvenile walked by, McDaniel said.
