Broder on Federal Debt and Politics
The column by Broder was a good analysis of our problems with a disorganized, ineffective, indebted government. He said that presidents and Congress of the ‘80s lacked courage to ask people to pay for government services.” But, if I remember well, former President Reagan deliberately cut and cut the money for government services.
It wasn’t so much a matter of lack of courage as it was of misguided conservative policies which, in my opinion, result from a misconception of the very important role of government in a technological era. We are paying dearly for these stupid errors.
