Conductor Newton Wayland will replace singer Maureen McGovern in the Pacific Symphony’s pops programs on Dec. 23 and 24 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa. McGovern cancelled the local dates to appear in a New York production of Kurt Weill’s “The Three Penny Opera,” which stars rock singer Sting. A native of Santa Barbara, Wayland has conducted the Pittsburgh and St. Louis symphonies and the Boston Pops. Information: (714) 973-1300.
