WORLD : Californian May Be New Hostage
A previously unknown group claimed today it had abducted a California woman and a Lebanese-born West German father and son “because of their activities in Lebanon.”
The group, calling itself “The Organization of Just Revenge,” made the claim in a brief statement delivered to a Western news agency in Muslim West Beirut.
The group did not specify what the three were doing in Lebanon.
Attached to the statement were copies of passports of the three claimed hostages, American Deborah Fahrend, 54, and Germans Munir Sami Shamseddin, 39, and his 7-year-old son, Daniel. Fahrend’s American passport said she was born in California.
If confirmed, the new abductions would bring the number of foreigners held hostage in Lebanon to 20, including 9 Americans.
