A tornado blew in a cafeteria wall at an elementary school today, killing seven children and injuring nearly two dozen others as they ate their lunch, authorities said.

The glass and brick cafeteria wall, as well as a section of roof, collapsed with a roar about 12:30 p.m. at the East Coldenham Elementary School near Newburgh, 60 miles north of New York City in the Hudson Valley.

Hospital officials said seven children were killed and 23 hurt when a 200-foot-wide twister slammed into the school wall. Glass showered across the cafeteria, slashing children to death.
