STATE : Bay Bridge Repair Celebrated
Just one month after a major earthquake ruptured the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, thousands of festive people today walked on the span to commemorate the quick repair job.
Thousands of people of all ages walked on the bridge to within 100 yards of the 50-foot break on the upper deck that had severed the vital link between San Francisco and the East Bay.
The 32-day-wonder of a repair job on the bridge, damaged by the devastating Oct. 17 quake, will allow the span to reopen to automobile traffic Saturday morning, officials said.
