CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : BAY AREA : 2 BART Managers Suspended in Probe
- Share via
Two Bay Area Rapid Transit system managers being investigated in a corruption inquiry by the agency’s police and the FBI have been suspended without pay, officials said. The action was taken against Loren W. Gaulter, 58, BART’s assistant treasurer, and Stanley J. Eng, 38, an assistant district cashier who oversaw the counting of more than $500,000 a day in fare receipts. No charges were filed, and BART officials would not comment on the evidence gathered other than to say the suspensions were an outgrowth of internal investigations to uncover criminal activity within BART. Gaulter, a 15-year employee, was earning $66,864 a year. Eng has worked for the district since September, 1972, and was earning $55,398.
