Morris Ratner; L.A. Utility Commissioner
Morris Ratner, a Los Angeles Public Utilities and Transportation commissioner from 1962 to 1968 and a local philanthropist, has died, his family announced Thursday.
He was 72 when he died Nov. 9 of a lingering heart ailment, said his daughter, Lisa Fremer.
Ratner, who was given the City of Hope Benefactor Award in 1966, for many years had owned a meat-packing house in Santa Monica and had expanded his operations to Las Vegas, where he died.
Other survivors include his wife, Bonnie, two sons, two sisters, four brothers and five grandchildren.
