All UCLA’s Bonds Did Was State the Obvious

Share

Uh oh, Jimmy Bonds has sort of officially let the cat out of the bag, and Terry Donahue is going to be even unhappier than he already is. He shouldn’t be too hard on the kid, since there doesn’t seem to be any malicious intent, and since Bonds isn’t telling us anything we hadn’t already seen with our own eyes.

It has been obvious the Bruins have “given up on part of the season and just thought about SC.” It has been obvious they’ve started to “accept losing.”

Of course, this is a damning indictment of Donahue and his coaching staff, who have never been noted for their mental toughness or their ability to handle adversity. The Bruins beat teams by getting on top and then holding on. They overmatch, despite Terry’s bleating to the contrary, almost every team they play.

Ever since the Arizona embarrassment, UCLA has just been showing up for the Saturday scrimmages.

All those Trojan suspicions about a lack of pride in the UCLA approach, about a softness at the center of the Bruin football program, look to be absolutely valid.
