NEW YORK — The people who bring you “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune” have announced plans to produce a new game show based on the board game that helped make Atlantic City famous.
“Monopoly” will be produced by Merv Griffin Enterprises and distributed by King World for the fall 1990 television season.
Peter Tomarken, who hosted the show “Press Your Luck,” which ran on CBS for three years, will host the show.
“This is the most challenging project I’ve worked on in a long time,” said Griffin, who is also in the middle of a last-ditch effort to save his financially ailing Resorts International Inc. casino company in Atlantic City.
“The whole process has been extremely exciting,” Griffin said.
The program will be produced in the “strip” format for broadcast on local television stations five days a week.
