New York Opera Strike Ends: The 66-day strike by orchestra members of the New York City Opera was ended Saturday when members of Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians voted 47-16 to accept a settlement offer. But labor troubles at the State Theater in Lincoln Center may be far from over. The same musicians’ union is involved in negotiations with New York City Ballet, which is to open its season on Tuesday. Neither side would comment on the issues, but John Glasel, president of Local 802 said: “I wouldn’t say a strike is probable, but it is certainly possible.” Glasel said a meeting was scheduled for 11 a.m. today, with a strike vote scheduled at 6 p.m. The NYCO strike had caused the cancellation of the fall season, and had threatened the spring season, due to begin Feb. 26 with the production of “The Sound of Music.” The settlement reached was unique, in that it provides for a new five-year contract; previous contracts had been for only three.
