Currie Calls It Quits: John Currie, music director of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, announced Monday that he will not seek renewal of his contract when it expires at the end of the 1990-91 season. “It’s a purely personal decision,” Currie said in a prepared statement. “By 1991, I shall have accomplished the goals I set for myself and the Chorale when I came here three years ago.” Last month Currie’s position was advertised in Daily Variety, a move mandated by the Immigration and Naturalization Service as part of the labor certification process to obtain a permanent immigrant visa for Currie.
