Holmes, Narver Awarded Navy Radar Contract

ORANGE — Holmes & Narver Inc. said Monday that it has been awarded the planning and design contract for an expansion of the U.S. Navy’s radar installation at Amchitka Island in the Aleutian Island chain.
The engineering and construction services firm would not disclose its anticipated revenue from the Alaska project, which is estimated to cost $100 million to build.
Holmes & Narver will prepare a construction logistics plan, design the expansion and monitor activities during the anticipated three-year construction phase to ensure that the timetable is met.
Actual work on the project to expand the Amchitka base camp and to add a second camp and its radar installation is expected to begin in December, 1990.
Holmes & Narver, with 4,500 employees worldwide, is one of the nation’s largest engineering, construction services and facilities operations companies.
One of its subsidiaries, Holmes & Narver Services, recently was awarded a five-year, $250-million contract to provide support services for the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic program.
