Share

A pregnant Huntington Beach woman and two men died early Monday when their car struck the back of a semi-trailer parked on the shoulder of the Golden State Freeway in north Los Angeles County, the California Highway Patrol said.

The victims, whose names were not released pending notification of relatives, were driving south about 55 m.p.h. shortly after midnight when their car swerved to the right and rammed into the back of the parked 18-wheeler, said Officer Mark Ehly, a CHP spokesman at Ft. Tejon.

Ehly said the car’s driver, a 28-year-old Huntington Beach man, apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

The two passengers were identified only as a 25-year-old man, residence unknown, and the 26-year-old woman.

The truck, which had its emergency lights flashing, was parked at the roadside because it had run out of fuel, Ehly said.
