From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The woman who admitted stealing millions of dollars from the government and giving some of it to the poor, earning her the nickname “Robin HUD,” has been indicted. Marilyn Louise Harrell was charged in Baltimore with embezzling $5.6 million from HUD, two counts of making false statements to the federal government and one count of making false statements in connection with a loan application. Despite congressional testimony that she gave away stolen HUD money, the government probe found that “the single largest charity by far was herself,” said Breckinridge L. Willcox, U.S. attorney for Maryland.
