From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Riverside County sheriff’s deputies in Elsinore were searching for a man who attacked a sheriff’s deputy with a knife after methamphetamines were found in the suspect’s vehicle during a stop near Corydon Street and Mission Trail, authorities said Thursday. A spokesman for the Elsinore substation said that after the drugs were found, the suspect jumped back into his 1990 white Ford Mustang, the deputy jumped in after him, and a struggle ensued. The suspect began jabbing at the deputy with a knife, according to the spokesman, then started his car and sped down Mission Trail with the deputy still at his side. After being carried about two miles, the deputy gained control of the knife and jumped from the vehicle, and the motorist drove off, authorities said. The deputy sustained minor injuries. The suspect and vehicle were being sought in the Ortega Highway area, the spokesman said.
