Couple’s Bodies Found at Base of San Pedro Cliff

A man and a woman fell or jumped to their deaths from a rocky 150-foot cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Point Fermin Park in San Pedro, police said Friday.

Los Angeles Police Sgt. Jerry Rilling said investigators believe the couple probably jumped because they had to deliberately climb over a fence to get to the edge of the cliff.

The bodies, discovered shortly before noon in rocks at the base of the cliff, were airlifted by helicopter several hours later and examined nearby.

Rilling said the man carried out-of-date identification with an address in Hawthorne and the woman carried no identification. The man was in his early 40s and the woman in her late 30s.
